This is Dedicated to the Ones I Love

For daegaer, whose adroit abuse of manliness in her fantabulous fiction has me constantly offering up blood sacrifices in exchange for more On Her Majesty's Martian Service striving to be more like her, and sometimes throwing in a "he ejaculated" without realizing it—and whose amazing "Ordinary People" is the pinnacle of adorableness (adorability?) to which I shall forever aspire. Thank you, daegaer, though you have no idea who I am and doubtless will never read these words—you have inspired more of us than you will ever know.

Also for my flists—both of them. Yes, even the communities—even the non-NaNo ones. I adore you all, and whether I've been commenting or not, I assure you I have been reading. What did you think I was doing for those three weeks I spent skiving off my daily writing time? You all rock like whoa. Those of you participating in NaNo—I know I haven't been reading your stuff; well, I've been a bit busy, and as far as I can remember, I haven't seen any comments from any of you on mine, either. So you have no reason to complain—but don't let that stop you. Thank you all for the whip-cracking and the dangling of fabulous prizes just out of my reach. I could never have done it without you.

For my parents—heh. I realize that the content of some parts of this novel may not exactly be what you...expect...from me. Please keep in mind that I am assured from various corners of all my fandoms that it doesn't make me a pervert, or at least that I'm a pervert in good company.

Thanks to Mr. John Harland for writing the absolutely fantastic Seamanship in the Age of Sail, without which I would very likely have been all at sea—pardon the pun—while I was writing the sailing bits and, in fact, figuring out the geography. (You can't get your characters from Point A to Point B without knowing how far apart those two points are, what direction the wind is blowing and how hard, how their ships are rigged, and what all that means for travel speed.)

Much appreciation is also due everyone who contributed to the very inspirational '04 volume of Best Lesbian Erotica. Annie and Wryn thank you. In a similar vein, Alorn and Jack thank Mel Keegan (author of Fortunes of War, a fabulous Elizabethan gay pirate novel) and everyone whose explicit slash I have ever read.

In fact, if you ever wrote same-sex erotica and I read it, you have my permission to show up on my doorstep at any hour of the day or night and demand one cookie, free of charge.

Thanks to Sarah D. Bunting; Tomato Nation keeps me going all year round, not just in November, but it's particularly effective this time of year what with all the added stress. Your advice on the Vine is lovely; without the things you said about the election this year, I probably wouldn't have started up writing again in time to finish. And the Girls' Bike Club is literally the funniest thing I have ever heard of. Keep doing your thing.

Thanks also to Chi, Joyous, Snrub, and Mar, without whose encouragement I would probably have gotten a lot more written over the past few days never have finished. I love you guys. No really. Come over for booze. You can read the sex bits.

And for my readers—well, I'd love to say this book is really for you, but that would be a lie; it's for me. But if you like it, then hey, maybe you're more like me than you thought, and I'd love to hear from you about it. Write me at beaterchick@hotmail.com any time you want. Just don't tell me you thought it sucked. Unless you want to give specific reasons, because those I can learn from.
